The April edition of the Wakefield Safeguarding Children Partnership (WSCP) e‑bulletin brings together a wide range of important safeguarding updates, new resources and learning opportunities for professionals working with children, young people and families across the district.
Key highlights this month include:
New multi‑agency training opportunities, including a Safeguarding Week Learning Exchange webinar on Modern Slavery and Child Trafficking. The session will explore vulnerabilities, emerging exploitation trends, and practical tools to support early intervention, featuring learning from police and youth justice case studies.
WSCP has also launched Practitioner Essentials, a new introductory toolkit designed to help practitioners, volunteers and new starters understand safeguarding arrangements in Wakefield and connect with partnership resources, training and updates.
Several seasonal child safety messages are reinforced this month, including water safety through the Phone, Float, Throw campaign and vital advice on preventing falls from windows and balconies as warmer weather approaches.
The bulletin continues its focus on keeping babies safe, with an update on Every Sleep a Safer Sleep training, an invitation for practitioner feedback, and new bereavement and baby safety support from The Lullaby Trust.
There is a strong emphasis on relationship‑based safeguarding practice, with new WSCP webpages and one‑minute guides highlighting the importance of building trusting relationships, motivational interviewing and skilled communication in everyday practice.
For education settings, the bulletin shares new NSPCC PANTS resources, guidance to support children through school transitions, updated DSL forums and networks, and a new whole‑school approach framework for responding to child sexual abuse.
