Joint Operation Highlights Safe and Legal Use
Wakefield Safeguarding Children Partnership is supporting efforts to raise awareness of the safe and legal use of e-scooters and e-bikes following a joint operation carried out by West Yorkshire Police and Wakefield Council's Community Safety Partnership in Castleford.
The operation focused on educating riders about the law relating to electric scooters and other electric vehicles, whilst promoting road safety and helping reduce anti-social vehicle use.
Many people are unaware that while it is legal to purchase an e-scooter, privately owned e-scooters cannot generally be ridden on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or public land. E-scooters are classed as powered transporters and are subject to similar legal requirements as other motor vehicles.
As e-scooters become increasingly popular with children and young people, it is important that parents, carers and professionals understand the law and the potential safety risks associated with their use.
