Safeguarding for Governors


This is a strategic course for governors only, it is not suitable for operational staff in schools.

It will cover what governors need to support and challenge the headteacher to ensure excellent safeguarding in their school here in Wakefield.

It is recommended that governors attend this course every 2 years.

Course information

There is a lot of information to cover in this session, however delegates will be provided with a pack that they can takeaway and reflect on afterwards. It is expected that all attendees are aware of/have seen a copy of, the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education and more specifically are aware of chapter 2, governor responsibilities.


All governors should have this training. It is necessary for the Safeguarding Governor

Course Highlights

  • Recognise safeguarding legislation, guidance and inspection criteria for schools
  • Consider vulnerable groups, current issues
  • Reflect on barriers for staff and lessons learnt in serious cases
  • Consider how to ‘temperature check’ your school in regards of their safeguarding responsibilities

We keep your personal data for no longer than reasonably necessary for a period of 3 years in order to offer upcoming courses, briefings and updates around safeguarding. We use your data to provide certificates once you have attended one of the sessions we provide, and to ensure that we have an appropriate sign in register with your name for fire safety purposes. After the 3 year period we will ensure that your data/information is destroyed in accordance under the new GDPR act.

Courses are free for the statutory, voluntary and community sector in Wakefield, however failure to attend without giving prior notice may result in a charge to cover costs.
