Course overview

The Wakefield Public Health, learning and development (CPD) programme is back. The programme offers a wide range of free, bite-sized learning opportunities for workers and volunteers (the wider public health workforce) who have a role and opportunity in improving the health and wellbeing of residents of Wakefield District.

The Programme aims to:

  • Improve awareness and appreciation of the breadth of public health and current priorities
  • Enhance the understanding, skills and practice of workers in order to promote the health and wellbeing of Wakefield District’s residents.


Physical Activity
Wednesday 21 April 2021, 10 – 11 Via Skype

This session will:

  • Give an understanding of the recommended physical activity levels
  • Give an understanding of the benefits of living a physically active lifestyle
  • Raise awareness of the physical activity opportunities in the district


Housing, Health and Wellbeing
Thursday 10 June 2021, 2-3 via Skype
Energy and Home Owner Support Team

This session will:

  • Improve staff’s understanding of the links between fuel poverty, cold homes and health in the Wakefield district.
  • Raise awareness of what support Strategic Housing can offer to alleviate fuel poverty, reduce cold homes and improve energy efficiency levels and health e.g. energy efficiency improvement schemes, interest free loan products, financial help and advice for tenants and homeowners.


Looking After Ourselves During COVID
Wednesday 30 June 2021, 11 – 12 via MS Teams

This session will:

  • Uses compassion focused therapy approaches to consider the impact of the C-19 pandemic on our lives and the work that we do.
  • It aims to support people to think about how the pandemic might have impacted them emotionally and ways in which to support their wellbeing.


Introduction to Public Health in Wakefield
Wednesday 14th July 2021, 2 – 3 via MS Teams

This session will:

  • Present an overview of the principles of public health
  • Look at the main issues that affect the health and well-being of Wakefield residents
  • Raise awareness of what you can do to help address these
  • Give examples of public health initiatives taking place to improve health and wellbeing.

Unless stated sessions are open to workers and volunteers in the Wakefield district who have a role in improving health and wellbeing. Booking is easy but ESSENTIAL for attending the sessions.
